Job Summary

Cosmic AES is looking for an up and coming IT technologist that is highly motivated and ready to learn and serve as an IT Intern who can work about 25 hours per week.  This is a paid internship. The IT Intern will be responsible for provisioning, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of information system hardware and software. This individual will perform tasks such as help-desk support and development operations enabling continuing innovation within the infrastructure. Additionally, this position ensures that system hardware, software applications, operating systems, and related procedures are maintained according to organizationally developed policies and as approved through the Senior System Administrator.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Serves as the primary POC for desktop support for Linux and Windows 10, assisting Cosmic AES personnel with hardware and software problems
  • Maintains and monitors data center environment and equipment across the Cosmic Corporate Network
  • Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all resources
  • Verifies completion of scheduled jobs (i.e., backups, event log transfer, etc.)
  • Reviews system access logs to determine unauthorized intrusions/accesses
  • Conducts ongoing performance tuning, resource optimization, and memory reallocation
  • Performs hardware/software/firmware installation and upgrades per established policy utilizing Windows Update Services and Linux utilities
  • Maintains company networked file storage to include creation of folders with assignment of permissions
  • Creates/Modifies/Deletes user accounts in local Microsoft Active Directory and Office 365
  • Performs setup of new-hire computing resources prior to arrival of new personnel to include hardware setup, software installation, and account assignment to ensure configuration complies with company polices and applicable NIST guidelines
  • Supports the Senior System Administrator in the creation of policies and procedures for the Cosmic Corporate Network which includes Linux Red Hat/Ubuntu, and Windows 10
  • Creates documentation for common procedures to aid Cosmic AES personnel in the completion of day to day task

Qualifications and Skills

  • US Citizen
  • Working knowledge of Linux and Windows 10
  • Able to trouble shoot and analyze complex problems
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts to include subnetting
  • Basic understanding of virtualization technologies, e.g., virtual machines or containers
